About Our Select Program
The Milton Bats Select Program offers an enhanced playing opportunity with advanced training and tournament participation for players in each House League division selected to play on the Select team. It provides an excellent space for players seeking hightened competition and team building experiences.
Select teams start at the U11 division and are formed in all age groups, up to and including U21. One team is formed in each age group, with some divisions holding 2 select teams. A player’s responsibility to the Select team is in addition to the house league commitment.
SCHEDULE
Each of our Milton Bats Select teams determines its own schedule and engagement level but generally consist of weekly practices, occasional exhibition games, and weekend tournaments.
Generally, a season in our select program spans for a period of 11 to 12 months and includes:
Tryouts:
- Early September
- 2 - 3 tryouts per age group
Fall training:
- Mid-September to Thanksgiving weekend
- Outdoor practices, 1x to 2x per week
- May include some exhibition games
- Weekday evenings and/or weekends
Off-season:
- November to April
- Sunday mornings at Milton Sports Dome
- Indoor training in a top-notch Fieldhouse setting
- Pitching instructions with a highly qualified Instructor
- Dryland training (weekday evenings, 1x per week, January to April)
In-Season:
- May to August
- Outdoor practices (1x – 2x per week)
- Weekend tournaments (June to August, usually 4-6 each)
- Exhibition games
UNIFORMS
Each team is provided with specific uniform attire, designed to proudly display support for team, the organization, and our hometown. The following is a list of items made available to players that are rostered on a Select team.

- Backpack (incl. team logo and player number)

COACHES
Select coaches focus on achieving success at a competitive level and adhere to the Milton Girls Softball Coaches Code of Conduct to ensure a meaningful experience for every player. Coaches are committed to fostering player development, competitive spirit, aim to inspire athletes to compete at a higher standard and undergo continuous self-development to enhance their coaching abilities.
Become a Select Coach
Anyone can apply to become a select coach. The coach selection process involves several stages designed to identify and select the best candidates for the coaching positions. Overall, the process is lead by the Vice-President – Select Softball and supported by the other executives. Shortlisted candidates may undergo interviews. These interviews assess not only technical qualifications but also cultural fit and interpersonal skills. On occasion, Candidates may be asked to complete assessments or tests to demonstrate their abilities. Finally, after thorough evaluation, the chosen candidate receives a notice of selection and, upon acceptance, begins the onboarding process. Throughout each step, communication and transparency are practiced to ensure a positive experience for both candidates and the league.
PROGRAM COST
The participation fee for the Select Program varies by team, but it generally ranges from $800 to $1,200 per player. All participating players must pay the fee before being eligible to participate in the program. Players are also required to register for house league play, and the costs associated with house league registration are in addition to the Select fees indicated above.
